Fundraising Tips for Nonprofits

Jeffrey Smitheram

Fundraising in the Webster's dictionary is defined as “is the process of gathering voluntary contributions of money or other resources, by requesting donations from individuals, businesses, charitable foundations, or governmental agencies.” (Webster Dictionary) Fundraising is a great way to give back to a person’s local community or other communities surrounding them. With fundraising can be a fun activity to do with a sports team, club, organization, and individually.

KED consulting published an article on how to increase fundraising success in 7 different ways. The 7 ways to make fundraising a success is listed as follows; 1. Create realistic goals, 2. Make your goals complex, 3. Find experts, learn skills, 4. “Get it” from the donors’ point of view, 5. Exploit opportunities to their fullest, 6. Manage your time, 7. Even the best, face new circumstances each day.

With fundraising there is so many different ways to go about it. With the American Cancer Society they provide some helpful tips from their Relay For Life Fundraising Idea section.

They teach individuals on how to fundraise not just for their organization but also in general on how to fundraise effectively. They have tips, which any person could relate to , for the cause or goal they are fundraising for that are quite simple to run and use.

Anyone can fundraise and it is not just helping the cause you are volunteering for it is helping lots people from all around the world. The best way to be motivated to fundraise if you are passionate about the cause or the goal you are trying to reach. It should be something that means a lot to you , for example when I partook in my Eagle Scout Project in the Boy Scouts.

I worked with an organization called “Christmas for Everyone” they are a great organization which provides meals and present for people in need during the holiday season. For my Eagle Project we collected 950 new pair of socks and 550 pairs of coats for the organization to give out on Christmas for the cold weather seasons. The overall experience was very life changing and a lot was learned.

Overall everyone should fundraise. Do it for a common goal or an organization that gives back to the community and in the long run it could better someone life. Fundraising is something that is easy to do and very effective to helping your own community or a cause you are passionate about. Just makes when it comes to fundraising for something is that you are committed and do it for the right reasons.
